In California, the penalty for stabbing a deputy sheriff can be quite severe, especially if the attack results in serious injury. The specific charges and penalties can vary based on the circumstances, but generally, such an act could lead to charges of attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon.
For instance, if convicted of attempted murder, the individual could face a life sentence with the possibility of parole. If charged with assault with a deadly weapon, the penalty could range from 2 to 4 years in state prison, or more if there are aggravating factors.
