Coaches for the annual Santa Ana Prep Basketball Classic, being played this year at Santa Ana High School on Friday, March 21 were announced this week.
The boys home team will be coached by Rick Mares of Santa Ana High School. The boys away team
will be coached by Rex Gonzalez of Segerstrom High School.
The girls home team will be coached by Dana Nguyen of Santa Ana High School whose team just
finished a run to the semi-finals of the CIF Division V Southern California Regional playoffs.
The away team will be coached by Shontya Pouncey of Segerstrom High School.
The game, supported by the Santa Ana Elks Lodge Number 794, JFK Transportation and Leon Raya’s RAYA Foundation, features girls and boys basketball players from the Santa Ana area public high schools. There will be a 3-point shooting contest before the girls game.
The 3-point contest begins at 5:30 pm, followed by the girls game at 6:30 p.m. and the boys game at 8 p.m.
There will also be a half court shooting contest for door prizes.
Donations to help support the event are being accepted and pre-sale tickets are available online at
ticketleap.com for $7 (processing fees apply) by searching Santa Ana Classic All Star game. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10.
