Beckman High School’s girls volleyball team captured its sixth consecutive league title and is preparing for the start of the CIF Division 3 playoffs Wednesday at Marina.
As part of the re-leaguing process, Beckman moved from the Pacific Coast League to the Sea View League.
“That makes six straight league titles for us after winning the last five in the Pacific Coast League,” McBain said. “The new league definitely gave us some tougher competition this season. Tesoro is a solid team that we beat on the road in five sets a few weeks ago. We then got them in three sets at home to clinch the league title with two matches still remaining.
“We had our mid-season struggles, but righted the ship just as league started and really starting putting it all together.”
Beckman has been led by senior Sophia Saad, who has been the team’s best player all season and will likely be the league MVP, McBain said.
“She is our most consistent attacker while also taking on setting responsibilities for three rotations,” McBain said.
Other top players are senior outside hitter Sydney Parker, senior setter Kristine Tran and junior outsider hitter Ari Luna-Rosas.
McBain expects a competitive match in the playoff opener.
“They beat us pretty handily at our place five-six weeks ago, but we are a very different team now,” he said. “I expect us to put up a real fight in that match.”
