(NEXSTAR) – “Suits” could be getting yet another spinoff.
NBCUniversal has ordered a pilot for “Suits: L.A.,” a “Suits” spinoff which will follow a new cast of characters at a firm on the West Coast. It’s not yet known whether any of the characters from the original series will make appearances, but the events of the show are said to take place in the same universe as “Suits,” People reported.
A logline obtained by Variety reveals additional details of the plot, which will follow Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York who moved to Los Angeles to take on high-powered clients.
“His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career,” the logline reads, in part.
The pilot will be written by “Suits” creator Aaron Korsch, per The Hollywood Reporter.
“Suits,” which originally aired on the USA Network, ran for nine seasons between 2011 and 2019. The show followed a group of lawyers and associates at a New York City law firm, with a cast including Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Rick Hoffman and Meghan Markle.
The series later became available for streaming via Peacock and Netflix. In 2023, Nielsen determined “Suits” to be the top-streamed acquired show on any streaming service, with 57.7 billion viewing minutes across the two platforms. (Prior to “Suits,” NBC’s “The Office” had been the most-streamed show in any calendar year, having amassed 57.1 billion viewing minutes in 2020, according to Nielsen.)
“Suits,” meanwhile, had previously spawned another spin-off — “Pearson” — featuring actress Gina Torres reprising her role as Jessica Pearson from the original series. The show was canceled after its first season.
“Suits: L.A.,” should it be picked up by NBCUniversal, could air as early as the 2024-25 season, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
