ANAHEIM, Calif. (December 12, 2023) — Anaheim Public Library is a recipient of the Orange County Business Council’s Turning Red Tape into Red Carpet Award. The awards recognize organizations and their leaders who challenge obstacles in place and create economic opportunities.

APL won the Public–Private Partnership Award for the Foster Care Initiative of 2022.

The Foster Youth Initiative began in 2020 to serve foster youth directly in Anaheim and surrounding cities in Orange County through community outreach. The outreach shared information about our “We’re Here for You” library card, only available for foster youth and youth in need. Youth in need that qualify for the card include foster youth, homeless, temporary housing, or emancipated youth.

The “We’re Here for You” library card is available for youth 0-18. The card allows them to check out materials without a parent or guardian’s signature or address, as those might change frequently for this demographic.

During 2022, Anaheim Public Library served youth in need by running a Holiday Drive for foster youth, in which all items were collected for two community foster youth partner organizations in Orange County, and by providing homeless youth in transitional housing with access to Chromebooks on their residential site.

The “We’re Here for You” Card is available at all Anaheim Library branches.
