Foothill High School’s football team had a memorable trip to Santa Barbara this weekend.
The Knights defense made a goal-line stand on the final play of the game to defeat Bishop Diego 31-28 Saturday night at Santa Barbara City College in the season opener for both teams.
It was the annual road trip for the team, coached by Doug Case.
“The Knights battled for 48 minutes against a very physical Bishop Diego team,” Case said. “They secured the 31-28 victory with a goal-line stand from the one yard line on the last play of the game.”
Foothill was led by quarterback Nick Miali, who had three touchdown passes and rushed for one and Nico Mancini, who had two touchdown catches.
The defense was led by Preston Raymond and Bode Jellerson.
“Overall, I’m super proud of my guys and it was a great win for the Knights,” Case said. “We learned a great deal from this game. Anytime you get to play this physical of a game and keep the injuries and mistakes to a minimum, you have to feel good about the future. There is still a lot of football to be played so we will build on this, improve and get ready for the Tillers.”
Foothill meets Tustin Friday night.
