Crean Lutheran and Capistrano Valley varsity football teams tuned up for the start of the regular season with a scrimmage Friday night at Crean Lutheran.

Crean Lutheran is coached by Rick Curtis. His son, Sean Curtis, is the head coach at Capistrano Valley.

Crean Lutheran opens Friday vs. Canyon at Fred Kelly Stadium while Capistrano Valley opens the season Friday vs. Norte Vista at home.

“The Saints are excited to open up the season against a formidable opponent in the Canyon Commanches,” Rick Curtis said. “The Comanches feature a potent passing attack that will test our secondary right out of the gate. The great thing about our scrimmage is that we came out of it injury-free.”

Rick Curtis said the scrimmage was helpful.

“The scrimmage against Capo Valley gave us a good barometer of where we stand,” he said. “We will be working on correcting our mental mistakes from last Friday night’s scrimmage. I was pleased with our effort and intensity throughout the night. If we can cut down on our mental mistakes I think we are going to be ready for Friday night’s opener.”

Crean Lutheran finished 10-2 last season and is looking for another successful season with talented players returning.
