Beckman High School’s boys volleyball team clinched another Pacific Coast League title this week with a perfect league mark.

“We wrapped up league play and our regular season tonight with a 3-0 win over University,” said Beckman Coach Darin McBain. “We finished league with a 10-0 record and we did not drop a set in any of them.

“This makes four straight league titles, but it would be five if it were not for the COVID season that got cancelled just after we had started league play that year.  It was also our senior night tonight.  We played an all-senior lineup for the entire match.”

McBain said the senior group stands out.

“All eight of these guys have played critical roles for us over the years, especially this season,” McBain said. “This will be the best graduating class we have ever had, top to bottom, by far. Next year will be a bit of a rebuild, but we will still be very competitive with some key returners and a great group of young guys that we see as the future of the program.”

Beckman is currently ranked No. 4 in the CIF Division 1-2 poll.

“We will see the final standings on Saturday when the playoff seedings are announced,” he said. “This year, there is a new format. The top eight teams will be in Division 1 and will be placed into two 4-team pools. This means that each team will get a minimum of three matches. The winners of each pool of four will face off in the CIF finals.

“We feel like we have a team that can compete for that championship. We have spent a lot of time focusing on a few aspects of our game that we think could be the difference for us.”
