Senator Dave Min released the following statement on the anniversary of the March 16, 2021 mass shooting in Atlanta, Georgia.
“Two years ago today, eight innocent people, including six Asian American women, lost their lives in the Atlanta spa shootings because of the deadly intersection between anti-Asian hate and the prevalence of guns in this country. As a Korean American, my heart still aches at this horrible loss of life that targeted our community, and left four families without their umma or halmoni. And yet this scene has continued to play out across our country since that time, in places like Buffalo, Laguna Woods, Uvalde, Highland Park, Colorado Springs, Chesapeake, Monterey Park or Half Moon Bay. No community is safe, no place is safe from the specter of gun violence.
Enough is enough. Since being elected to the California State Senate, I have fought tirelessly against anti-Asian hate and to rein in gun violence in this country, including passing SB 1161, which makes public transit safer for Asian Americans and others suffering from harassment, and ending gun shows in the state of California. Today, as we remember those who lost their lives and their families, I renew my commitment to these causes. We must do more to honor their memory.”
