Michael Henderson, Chief of Police of the Seal Beach Police Department, gave a community briefing in regards to an officer-involved shooting that took place on January 16, 2023, in the 100 block of Old Ranch Road.
Police had responded to the location after a call for service from a female resident at home with her children, reporting that there was a suspicious person in front of the residence, yelling and kicking her front door. After officers contacted the subject, he refused to comply with their instructions. Police deployed a TASER, the subject subsequently produced a gun, and the shooting occurred.
“As you can imagine, an officer-involved shooting is a tragic event for everyone: for our officers, for our community, and for the family members of those involved. These matters deserve the highest level of scrutiny, and are rightly a matter of public concern,” Chief Henderson said in the community briefing.
The investigation into the incident is still ongoing and could take up to a year to complete.
