Girls and boys high school basketball teams in the Santa Ana Unified School District will once again take part in the 2023 Santa Ana Prep Classic presented by Godinez High School on Friday, March 17 at Godinez High School.
The game, which is sponsored by the Raya Foundation, features some of the top girls and boys seniors from the six Santa Ana Unified School District high schools.
The players were nominated by their coaches. There will be a three-point shooting contest prior to the girls game. The three-point contest begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by the girls game at 6:30 p.m. and the boys game at 8 p.m.
Last year’s inaugural event attracted more than 800.
This year’s home teams for both the girls and boys include players from Saddleback, Santa Ana and Santa Ana Valley. The visiting teams include players from Century, Godinez and Segerstrom.
Coaches are being confirmed and the rosters will be announced later this month.
The Raya Foundation is a Santa Ana non-profit whose mission is to “develop youth to be successful by providing positive athletic opportunities, supporting academic achievement and mentoring families,” according to Leon Raya, chairman of the organization.
The Foundation provides sports activities and scholarships for Santa Ana youth.
The Foundation is still accepting donations for the event and pre-sale tickets are available online at ticketleap.com for $5 (processing fees apply) by searching Santa Ana Showcase All-Star game and will be sold at the door for $10.
