Boys basketball teams in the Pacific Coast League will compete in a league tournament Wednesday through Friday at Portola High School to determine the final standings for the league.
The tournament is in place of a second round for the eight-team league. Coaches in the league opted for the plan rather than playing more league games in December which would have required teams cut back in tournaments. The PCL became an eight-team league with the addition of Sage Hill this year.
Sage Hill, currently in first place with a 7-0 record, is seeded first and will meet University Wednesday at 6 p.m. The tournament will be conducted in a traditional tournament format, with winning teams moving to the right side of the bracket and losing teams going to the left, according to Woodbridge Coach Rick Gibson.
Sage Hill (10-11 overall) currently has eight league points, second place Beckman has seven and third place Woodbridge six. Teams will receive two points for a win in the first game, two points for a victory in the second game and four points for a win in the fourth game, Gibson added.
Northwood opens with five points, Portola four, Irvine three, Laguna Hills two and University one based on first round games.
The tournament is also expected to have a bearing on the CIF playoffs beginning next week.

Sage Hill vs. University, 6 p.m.
Northwood vs. Portola, 7:30 p.m.
Woodbridge vs. Irvine, 3 p.m.
Beckman vs. Laguna Hills, 4:30 p.m.
Games continue at the same times on Thursday, Feb. 2 with the championship Friday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
