Save the date for LAEF’s Fundraising February for Los Al Kids

Our non-profit partner, the Los Alamitos Education Foundation (LAEF), is kicking off their annual “Fundraising February for Los Al Kids” campaign and you are invited to participate! LAEF is continuing to support student mental health and wellness through WellSpaces across all nine district schools. They are calm, comfortable places for students to reset and receive counseling support. LAEF also provides STEAM grants to our schools, free elementary World Language classes and program scholarships for families in need.

You can support LAEF and Los Al Kids by:

  1. Attending the LAEF Royal Gala on Friday, February 3rd at 6:30pm at The Grand in Long Beach. Tickets are available now through 1/25/23 at https://laef4kids.org/fundfeb/
  2. Making a suggested donation of $50 at https://laef4kids.org/fundfeb/
  3. Shopping the Online Auction, which will be available during the month of February.

At the Royal Gala, LAEF will be crowning their 2023 Royalty: Queen Erin Kominsky and King Dave Locke.

Mrs. Kominsky retired in June as Oak Middle School’s principal after 38 years in education, including 19 years as the principal of Weaver Elementary. Her leadership has brought many best practices and innovative educational strategies to our schools, and she has been honored with many awards including being named a National Distinguished Principal by the State of California in 2012.

Mr. Locke has been a dedicated parent leader in Los Al USD since 2008, serving as the Campaign Co-Chair of the Measure G school bond initiative, which funded the LAHS STEM Building and forthcoming second gym. He has held volunteer positions with the LAHS Baseball Booster, McAuliffe PTA and Hopkinson PTA. He has been an active LAEF supporter and major donor since 2016.

Congratulations to Erin and Dave on this well-deserved honor!

Thank you for continuing to support our Los Al USD students!
