MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center welcomes first baby of 2023

Abigail Manna Hsieh arrived just in time to become the first baby born at the Childbirth Center at MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley in 2023. Coming into the world at 6 lbs. 0 oz at 12:36 a.m. Abigail is the youngest child of Joy An and Peter Hsieh, residents of Huntington Beach, CA.

“We’re so happy and excited for our two daughters,” said Peter Hsieh. “Our first daughter’s due date was January 1 but she came two weeks early. Our second daughter, Abigail’s due date was January 13 and she also came two weeks early and it happened to land on New Year’s Day.”

In celebration of having the hospital’s first baby of the year, Joy An and Peter Hsieh received a special “First Baby Basket” — stuffed with onesies, booties, newborn clothing, receiving blankets, diapers and gifts for the new parents — from the care team at Orange Coast Medical Center.

Whether a pregnancy is routine or high-risk, MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center has experts to care for mom and baby. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Orange Coast Medical Center is a Level II NICU that provides compassionate and comprehensive care to premature and critically ill full-term infants.

Orange Coast Medical Center was recognized as ‘High Performing’ in Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report. The Childbirth Center at Orange Coast Medical Center is the only community hospital program in Orange County to have Certified Nurse Midwives as part of the care team, which includes obstetricians, pediatricians, perinatologists, neonatologists, specialized nurses, respiratory therapists, and lactation consultants to assist new mothers with their breastfeeding needs.
