During its final meeting of the year, the Cypress City Council swore three members into office and appointed Anne Hertz-Mallari as the City’s new Mayor.

The swearing-in ceremony for returning Council Member Scott Minikus and newly elected Council Members David Burke and Bonnie Peat followed the certification of the November 8, 2022 General Election. After taking their oaths of office, the newly sworn members joined their colleagues on the dais for their first day of official business.

Council Member Minikus will serve his first full term on the City Council after being appointed to complete a vacated term in August 2021. “Thank you to the Cypress community for entrusting me to represent you. Having the opportunity to continue serving my community is a humbling honor. We’ve achieved a great deal as a City over the past few years, and we must continue looking forward to stay on a path of progress. I’m excited and honored to serve you all!” said Council Member Minikus.

Speaking of his election, Council Member Burke said, “Thank you, Cypress voters, for giving me the opportunity to serve as your representative. Throughout my campaign, you showed me how deeply you care about our city, and it was an immense honor to earn your support in this election. I am looking forward to working with you and my fellow Council Members to ensure that our local government is responsive to your needs and always does what is best for our great city.”

For her part, incoming Council Member Peat shared her gratitude and vision for the future. “I am honored to have been elected to City Council and look forward to serving our community to ensure Cypress remains a wonderful place to live, work and play.”

In addition to inducting new members, the City Council appointed Anne Hertz-Mallari as Mayor and Scott Minikus as Mayor Pro Tem. Both members will serve in their respective capacities in 2023.
