Cypress, Crean Lutheran, Woodbridge, Foothill, Northwood and Tesoro capture Saturday wins

CYPRESS 76, CLAREMONT 33: The Centurions, coached by Derek Mitchell, evened their record at 1-1 with a win at the Edison Thanksgiving Showcase Saturday.

Jonah Kim scored 14 points and was named player of the game while freshman Ryan Gov finished with 13 points and four steals. Seniors Jonas Hanson (five rebounds, three charges taken) and Kason White (four rebounds and five blocks) each finished with eight points,

“It was good to see our boys respond after yesterday’s performance,” Mitchell said. “There were a lot of nerves for most of our guys. Only three of our guys played major varsity  minutes last season.

Cypress opened the event losing to Cypress 48-40 on Friday. Hanson had 13 points and Hayden Roberts seven points to lead Cypress.

Edison was able to open up an 18-point lead in the first half but Cypress cut the lead to two points in the second half.

“Coach (Rich) Boyce does such a great Job with his guys,” Mitchell said. “They never lost their composure throughout and pulled away at the end.”  

CREAN LUTHERAN 71, OAK HILLS 47: In their season opener at the Titan Turkey Shootout at Colony High School, the Saints were led by Kaiden Bailey with 20 points and six rebounds, Braeden Davidson with 15 points and five 3-pointers and Kenneth Bailey with 12 points and three assists.

WOODBRIDGE 68, LAKESIDE 59: The Warriors had five players in double figures and finished 3-1 in the Marina/Foothill Feastweek event.

Sophomore Jason Briggs had a double double with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Yousef Alsaad had 14 points, Ethan Crawford had 12 points and Stephen Lamp and JC Schinlder 11 points each.

NORTHWOOD 61, OCEAN VIEW 49: The Timberwolves (4-5) notched a win in the final day of the Rancho Alamitos Tournament. Zaid Yunis had 22 points, Arya Kumar 14 points and Ryan Abaye 10 points to lead Northwood.

FOOTHILL 66, MT. CARMEL 34: The Knights (4-0) finished with a perfect record during the Feastweek Tournament. Danny Kennard, Jordan Martin and Isaiah Bernard had 10 points each. Martin had seven rebounds.

BECKMAN 64, LOS ALAMITOS 63: The Patriots (4-3) knocked off the Griffins at the Edison Thanksgiving Showcase Saturday. Tai Nguyen had 19 points, Miguel Llanes and Shayan Jafari 11 points and Jaden Santos 10 points.

TESORO 69, LA MIRADA 60: The Titans (4-1) recorded a win at the Feastweek Tournament at Foothill High School. Carson Brown had 23 points and six rebounds, Blake Manning had 19 points and five 3-pointers and Nathan Draper had 11 points and nine rebounds.

ORANGE 87, WESTMINSTER 55: The Panthers were led by their player of the game Chris Abraham in the Elite 10 Challenge at Costa Mesa High School. Abraham had 33 points and Trimel King 23 points for Orange (4-1). Sean Le was the player of the game for Westminster.

HUNTINGTON BEACH 108, SADDLEBACK 44: The Oilers were led by player of the game Kai Labiatre in the Elite 10 Challenge at Costa Mesa. Aaron Vidal was named player of the game for Saddeback.

JSERRA 77, VILLA PARK 54: The Lions (4-0) were led by Aidan Fowler, who had 29 points; Jake Stafford, who had 15 points; and Korin Hull with 11 points.

TUSTIN 43, IRVINE 32: The Tillers, coached by Ringo Bossenmeyer, won the championship at the Rancho Alamitos Tournament.
