Join the Friends of the Library for the Mission Viejo Library 25th Anniversary Gala on Friday, October 7 from 6 to 9 pm at the Mission Viejo Library.
This festive event celebrates the library’s first quarter-century and the Friends of the Library’s contributions to our community.
The Mission Viejo Library opened in October 1997 with a collection of 65,000 items, 44,000 cardholders and a beautiful 27,000-square-foot building. In the 25 years since, the library has grown in every way — the collection includes more than 150,000 items, with thousands of additional copies available digitally.
There are nearly 200,000 cardholders, and the building was expanded to 41,500 square feet. More importantly, the library has expanded its reach and support to the community with programs and collections for all ages including storytimes, books clubs and bestselling author events.
The library also offers local history and genealogy research assistance, a Veterans Resource Center, the Career Online High School program, meeting and study rooms and a range of technology for patrons all in our beautiful facility.
The Friends is a volunteer non-profit that supports the library’s robust services and programs. Twenty-five years ago, the group helped shelve the first collection for opening day, and since then has provided invaluable volunteer support and helped to raise more than $3 million in funding to support enhancements at the library such as the Friends Bookstore, Summer Reading Programs, prestigious Writers Present author series, and the refurbishment of the Storytime Room.
Tickets for this adults-only event are required. The cost is $75 for a single admission or $125 for a pair and includes food, drinks, music and more. The first 75 tickets purchased will receive a special event gift. All proceeds from the event benefit the Friends of the Mission Viejo Library.
