Campaign Season Greetings!
That’s right. The letterhead tells the story.
I’m running for Mayor of Costa Mesa against the appointed incumbent.
The good news is that it is just the two of us on the November ballot.
Better news is that there are two great candidates, John Thomas Patton and Rob Dickson, running with me in separate races for District 3 and 5, respectively.
Currently, the Costa Mesa City Council has six individual districts, of which five are occupied by progressive Democrats. The Mayor is elected citywide. So six of the seven members are liberals.
It’s like I returned home and I’m living in a supermajority Sacramento-like enclave in Orange County.
I have stepped up to do something about what has become a disappointing train wreck in slow motion.
If the three of us are successful, then the composition will be four Republicans and three Democrats.
We have an excellent opportunity to turn Costa Mesa around. And it needs three more fiscal conservatives to make it possible.
Currently, Costa Mesa has the highest unrestricted net deficit per capita of Orange County’s 34 cities. It’s deep in debt. To the tune of $2,163 for every resident.
Compare this to the neighboring city of Irvine, which has a positive per capita of $1,442. This is a $3,605 difference for every man, woman and child living in both cities.
Costa Mesa was in 20th place out of 34 cities and has dropped to last place in just 11 years.
Not only are the finances in disturbing shape, but the politics are insane. The council majority approved allowing non-U.S. citizens to serve on the Planning Commission. As a legal immigrant who earned his citizenship the old-fashioned way, as a naturalized citizen, citizenship should be a minimum requirement to serve.
These are just a couple of the many reasons why you should invest in my candidacy and provide a financial contribution at your earliest convenience.
We have a city to save and you can play a part in this effort.
They say that charity begins at home. I’ve been in Costa Mesa since starting my career here in 1976 and moving into the city in 1984.
Being involved in local politics after moving in would start me down my road of public service.
Thinking that I could now relax has not been acceptable. Too many of my friends and neighbors encouraged me to get back into the fray.
