Collision Investigation Detectives conducted a thorough investigation and identified Deborah Lisa Betance, a 55-year-old resident of Long Beach, as the driver responsible for the fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that resulted in the death of Jere Whitney.
On May 27, 2022, detectives presented the case against Betance to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, who issued an arrest warrant. On July 13, 2022, detectives arrested Betance, who was booked into the Long Beach City Jail for one count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. Her bail was set at $50,000.
