Letter to the Editor: Michelle Steel fights for the Asian American community

Dear Editor:

Anti-Asian hate crimes increased in California by 177% in 2021 and we need someone in Congress who will fight to keep Asian communities safe in Orange and Los Angeles counties. Congresswoman Michelle Steel has proposed bi-partisan resolution condemning Anti-Asian hate crimes, voted in support of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act, and testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Asian American discrimination and violence.

Michelle Steel has always been a fighter for the Asian American community and she understands the discrimination that is often felt in our community because she has been on the receiving end of it. I will support Michelle in the upcoming election because actions speaks louder than words and Michelle continues to take numerous steps to make California safe for Asian-Americans.

As a Taiwanese American in particular, I, along with many others, felt the hate crime committed against our community and church in Laguna Woods Church shooting. Congresswoman Steel not only spoke out against the hate crime but led a bipartisan moment of silence in memory of hero Dr. John Cheng who sacrificed himself to stop the shooter. We can trust Michelle to stand up against anti-Asian hate crime.
