Long Beach police make arrest in murder investigation at 4900 block of Long Beach Boulevard

On June 13, 2022, at approximately 10:35 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4900 block of Long Beach Boulevard regarding a shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds to the upper body. Officers rendered aid until the arrival of the Long Beach Fire Department, who determined the victim deceased at the scene.

During the investigation, officers gathered key information from witnesses that gave both a suspect and vehicle description. Homicide Detectives arrived on scene and were able to identify a possible suspect. On June 14, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., near the 5500 Block of Long Beach Blvd, Special Investigation Detectives arrested Marco Quintanilla Ortega, a 23-year-old resident of Long Beach. A firearm was recovered during the arrest. Ortega was booked into the Long Beach City Jail for one count of murder and is currently being held on $2,000,000 bail. At this time, Detectives do not have a motive for the shooting, although it is believed to be gang related.

The Department of the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to positively identify the victim and notify the next of kin. At this time, the victim is only being identified as an adult male in his 20s.
