The Coast Community College District Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Elizabeth Dorn Parker to serve as Trustee for Area 5 through December 9, 2022. Her term will begin on July 9, following the retirement of David A. Grant. The selection of Dr. Parker was made during a special meeting of the Board on June 15, following an open search.
“The Board has every confidence that Dr. Parker will meet the high bar of thoughtful representation set by Dave Grant,” said Board President Mary Hornbuckle. “Dr. Parker has spent decades contributing to the development and excellence of education in the Coast District and throughout Orange County.”
Dr. Parker is an advocate of education at all levels. From 1982 to 2014, she served as an elected trustee on the Orange County Board of Education. During her 32 years on the Orange County Board of Education, she was elected to leadership positions as President of O.C. School Boards Association and President of the California County Boards of Education. She currently serves on the Samueli Academy Board of Education and as vice-chair of Costa Mesa’s Parks, Arts and Community Services Commission.
Dr. Parker recently retired from her job at Orange Coast College Foundation as a foundation development, alumni and outreach specialist. In this position, she was responsible for developing and coordinating the activities for the Foundation, large donor development, community and business partner outreach, alumni engagement, and establishing new and on-going fundraising campaigns.
“My time with the Coast District has taught me the power of community college to shape lives and the generational trajectories of entire families,” Dr. Parker said. “It is a great honor to serve as a representative of my community in the extraordinary work we continue to do at Orange Coast College, Golden West College, and Coastline College.”
Dr. Parker received her Bachelor’s degree in Art History from University of California, Los Angeles, a Master’s in Public Administration from California State University, Fullerton, and a Doctorate in Education with a concentration on Community College Leadership at California State University, Fullerton. Her doctoral research was an eight-year study of community college foundations across the country.
Voters in Trustee Area 5 will have an opportunity to select a representative to fill the seat for a full term during the November 2022 General Election.
