The California Department of Housing and Community Development (CDHCD) awarded Orange County $2,852,071 in funds from the Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) program. The PLHA program provides financial assistance made available through the passage of SB 2 (Chapter 364, Statues of 2017) and allocates 70 percent of the ongoing revenue deposited in the Building Homes and Jobs Trust Fund directly to local governments. Senator Patricia Bates (R-Laguna Niguel) issued the following statement:
“The median home price in California is $771,270, in Orange County the median price is $1.02 million. The need for additional housing has never been more clear. The $2.8 million provided by the PLHA program will help secure housing for roughly 900 Orange County residents. Although there is still much work to be done to alleviate California’s housing crisis, I will continue to advocate for Orange County’s fair share of funding and resources.”
The $2.8 million awarded by the Department of Housing and Community Development is intended for the new construction of affordable rental housing and homebuyer assistance. The local governments listed below received the following allocations:
- County of Orange: $1,977,337
- City of San Clemente: $482,867
- City of Laguna Niguel: $391,868
