On April 22, 2022, at approximately 2:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Andy Street regarding a hit shooting, which resulted in the death of a male adult and a female adult suffering critical injuries.
Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim and a female adult victim, both suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. Officers immediately began rendering aid until the arrival of the Long Beach Fire Department, who continued to provide medical aid to both victims. The Long Beach Fire Department subsequently determined the male victim deceased at the scene and transported the female victim to a local hospital where she is listed in critical but stable condition.
Homicide detectives were notified of the incident and they responded to the scene. Their preliminary investigation suggests the victims were seated in a parked vehicle when two adult male suspects approached them in a light-colored sedan and opened fire. The suspects fled the scene in the suspect vehicle, prior to officers arriving on scene. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation; however, the shooting is being investigated as gang related.
The adult male victim has been identified as Jimmy Ray Hawkins Jr., a 47-yearold resident of the City of Bellflower.
