In celebration of Arbor Day, the City of Los Alamitos Public Works Division along with the support of City Council planted three new trees at Little Cottonwood Park. Mayor Pro Tem, Tanya Doby with a shovel in hand was on site to participate in the planting of three tree species consisting of Western Cottonwood, London Plane, and Autumn Fantasy Maple. The trees were planted on the northside of the park fronting the fence line along Farquhar Avenue.
Mayor Pro Tem Doby expressed her joy as the City continues to strive toward expanding its urban forestry program. She stated, “Trees are a valuable resource and serve as an essential element to the aesthetics of our City. They provide many benefits such as enhancing the air quality, reducing sound pollution and improving the quality of life, particularly in our parks.”
The planting of new trees is just a simple but effective step in fulfilling the City’s commitment toward gaining Tree City USA recognition and improving its tree canopy layout. The City will continue its efforts in properly maintaining and improving programs which promote trees in the community.
