Irvine High’s baseball program honored its seniors Wednesday and wound up with a 7-5 Pacific Coast League victory over Portola.
“We celebrated our seniors with our senior game,” said Coach Gabriel Cota. “All of our seniors were able to play and contribute. We were also able to give out our first Casey Dumont Character Scholarships in honor of our late coach.
“We were pretty much shut down early by their guy (Josh Liu).”

But Irvine (10-16, 8-9) was able to rally for five runs in the sixth inning to capture the win.
Jeremiah Gedeon was 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored and a double, Caden Shaffer was 1 for 1, with a sacrifice fly, RBI and a run scored.
Shaffer got the win, pitching five innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out two.
Irvine and Portola (5-20, 2-15) meet again Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the final regular season game.
