The California Teachers Association (CTA) endorsed Palmdale City Councilmember and former Palmdale School Board Trustee Juan Carrillo in the race for California’s 39th Assembly District today. The district’s redrawn boundaries, encompassing the Antelope and Victor Valleys, have created a new Latino Majority District.

“Juan Carrillo is proud to be recommended by the California Teachers Association in the race for the State Assembly 39,” Jesse Aguilar, a member of the CTA Board of Directors, said. “Juan Carrillo understands firsthand the value of an accessible, first-rate education – and the important role it plays in not just a child’s future but the future of both our region and state as a whole. California educators know that Juan will fight tirelessly to advance free, universal, and quality public education and to improve the conditions of teaching and learning in California.”

With more than 1,100 chapters and 310,000 members, including school and college teachers, counselors, psychologists, librarians, education support professionals and other non-supervisory certificated personnel, California Teachers Association is the largest democratic, member-driven organization in the State of California. Since its establishment in 1863, CTA has positively transformed California’s education system for millions of students and teachers.

“Without quality adult school programs, I wouldn’t have been able to earn my GED certificate, high school diploma, or higher education degrees,”Carrillo said. “We need to make historical investments in our public schools and vocational training programs to ensure generations of California children, especially here in the Antelope and Victor Valleys, are able to live the American Dream. I look forward to working alongside the California Teachers Association to make this dream a reality for all.”

In addition to the endorsement of the California Teachers Association, Carrillo has earned the endorsements of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters, California State Senator Anna Caballero, Assemblymember Robert Rivas, Former Palmdale Water District Director Robert Alvarado, and Santa Monica City Councilmember Oscar de la Torre.
