Stop the presses! Based on the true story of the Newsboys Strike of 1899, the Broadway hit Newsies hits the stands at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA). Tickets start at $30.

The show opens 8 p.m. on Friday, May 13 and continues Friday, May 20 and 27; Saturday, May 14, 21, and 28 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, May 15, 22, and 29 at 2 p.m.; Saturday, May 21 and 28 at 2 p.m.; and Thursday, May 26, 7:30 p.m.

The family-friendly Tony-winning Disney musical centers on Jack, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of being an artist far away from the big city. When a publishing giant raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack and his fellow newsies band together in protest with the help of a new reporter hungry for her first story. Their joint mission forces New York to wake up to the power of “the little man.” The production features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman. The book is by Harvey Fierstein.
