The Los Alamitos Police Department turned out to mingle with the community they protect and serve every hour, every day as part of the Coffee with a Cop event on April 7, 2022.

The community event was held outside the Starbucks at 5252 Katella Ave., next door to Pietrini Pizza Napoletana and across from Costco and the Los Alamitos Race Course. The Department set up a table with information flyers and complimentary coffee and coffee cake to mark National Coffee Cake Day, as well as free challenge coins.

Members of the Los Alamitos Police Department, including recently-appointed Chief Michael Claborn, were present to interact with members of the public and answer any questions they might have. What are the current crime trends affecting Los Alamitos and its residents? Turns out the current crime “fad” is in vehicle burglary and catalytic converter theft. Keep your eyes out for catalytic converter etching events – the Seal Beach Police Department recently held one in March.

By working together with the community and forming stronger bonds and partnerships with local businesses, non-profits, and residents, the Los Alamitos Police Department can do its job even better to keep the city safe. Events such as Coffee with a Cop also allow people to meet police officers in casual, friendly, and open setting, showing the police as their friends and neighbors, rather than someone threatening or to be feared.
