Northwood, Beckman and Irvine baseball teams capture Pacific Coast League wins

NORTHWOOD 8, PORTOLA 0: The Timberwolves completed a Pacific Coast League sweep this week of Portola with a win Thursday at Portola. Casey Euper (3-1 overall, 3-0 in league) threw a complete game two-hit shutout, striking out seven.

Joseph Harper went 3 for 4 and scored two runs and Bobby Bangs hit a two run home run for the Timberwolves (6-8, 6-4). Northwood is in third place in the PCL.

“The team is playing well and having some success after a rough start,” said Northwood Coach Doug Euper. “It’s been fun to see so many different players starting to play better. It’s a great group of young men, whether we’re winning or losing. We’re just going to keep trying to play good baseball and have fun.”

BECKMAN 15, LAGUNA HILLS 2: The PCL leading Patriots (11-2, 9-1) won their second straight game this week over Laguna Hills. Jackson Snitko was 2 for 2 with four RBI, Josh Miller was 3 for 3 with three runs scored and Parker Allard 1 for 1 for Beckman, which had 14 hits.

AJ Roettger pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out seven to improve his record to 5-0. Luke Spencer and Ryan Askary closed out the game on the mound, according to Patriots Coach Kevin Lavalle.

Second place Woodbridge had a bye.

IRVINE 3, UNIVERSITY 0: Irvine (5-10, 5-5) got a strong pitching performance from Joon Lee, who pitched a complete game shutout, allowing two hits, striking out five. Caden Shaffer was 1 for 3 and had the game-winning RBI. Nathan Valencia was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored, Tate Zimmerman was 1 for 3, Ian Hew was 1 for 3 with a run scored, Mihir Dhodia was 1 for 3 with a double and Henry Jeong was 1 for 2.

University fell to 5-9-1 overall and 3-7 in PCL play.
