ANAHEIM, Calif. (May 31, 2021) – Anaheim Police Homicide Detectives have arrested 30-year-old David Steven Abbott, a male resident of Anaheim for the beating death of a 70-year-old, male Anaheim resident Rahmatolah “Davey” Yaghoubi.
On Monday, May 31, 2021, at about 12:20 pm, APD Officers responded to the intersection of Catalpa Avenue and Falmouth Avenue for an in-progress assault. Upon arrival, Officers located and detained Abbott. Officers located Yaghoubi suffering from severe head trauma. Yaghoubi was transported to a local area hospital where he died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the assault.
Detectives have confirmed Abbott is the suspect in an assault and battery which had occurred about 20 minutes earlier, just before 12 pm. In that incident, Abbott attacked a 60-year-old male resident of Anaheim who suffered minor injuries before Abbott fled the scene. That attack also appeared to be unprovoked and random.
At the time of these incidents, Abbott was out of custody, on bail for his May 15, 2021 arrest for assault with a deadly weapon. Abbott is currently housed at the Anaheim Jail and being held in lieu of $2 million bail. Homicide Detectives are currently seeking a bail enhancement.
