Wreaths Across America

At 9:00 am on Saturday, December 18th at the El Toro Cemetery in Lake Forest, as The Sons Of The Revolution stood guard, the Wreaths Across America program began here as it did all over the United States.  The Colors were presented by the American Heritage Girls, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and singing of our National Anthem. This tradition was started in 2005 where it received National attention standing for honor, remembrance and teaching.   The American Heritage Girls believe in building women of integrity, God, commitment, and country.   Saddleback Mission Viejo Elk’s own Loyal Knight, Tenisha Campanile shared the story of her years serving in the Army.   Today, Tenisha visits schools and speaks about her experiences serving our country and the reasons why our young citizens should consider the military as a career.

The  Mayor of Lake Forest, Scott Voights also spoke.  He thanked everyone who participated in this ceremony and reminded us to never forget our veterans and their families for the sacrifices they made so that we can live the lives we do today.    Mike Huddleston, the event coordinator, reported that 1,374 wreaths were donated by Elks and other good Samaritans. He thanked all the organizations who participated in the event as well as Mary Funk, the El Toro Cemetery Manager for a job well done.

The Elks would like to acknowledge all the volunteers who spent the next few hours laying wreaths upon each Veteran’s grave. Sincere thanks to the following Lodge members, Elks ladies, family members, and friends who came out to support our veterans: Marian Russo, Gloria Alfaro, Jenny Buford, Mike Black, Lucky Walch, Sven & Cookie Akesson, Kathy Andrews, Russell Stindt, Barbara King, Sandie McClure, Gracie Rogoff and Muggsie, Jerry Flores, Carol & Steve Gray, Judy Rhodes, and Sheryn Howlett.
