Santa came to town early this year for the inaugural Silent Santa event at 2ND & PCH, Long Beach’s premier outdoor shopping center. This event for children and adults with sensory sensitivities took place Sunday, December 11th, and was an instant hit–the reservation based event was fully committed within 48 hours.
Silent Santa offered quiet one-on-one time for children and adults with sensory sensitivities to partake in the festivities without the crowds, lights and noise. Attendees were able to color letters to Santa, participate in button-making hosted by Able ARTS Work and take home their own sensory-friendly pop-it keychain and bendable toy courtesy of Santa. 2ND & PCH partnered with the Tichenor Clinic in Long Beach to create this special holiday event. Tichenor Clinic provides no-cost access to physical, occupational and speech therapy for children with disabilities, as well as parent education and support on a sliding fee scale.
“We’re so happy to participate in this inclusive event for individuals with sensory sensitivities,” says Stelet Kim, Director of Development and Communications at Tichenor Clinic. “There are many families who are unable to enjoy typical entertainment opportunities due to the impact of the environment on their children and/or fear of judgment. Thanks so much to 2ND & PCH for providing a thoughtful and welcoming environment for families to experience a visit with Santa.”
2ND & PCH is committed to being a welcoming space for all to enjoy and looks forward to continuing with Silent Santa, and other unique opportunities of this inclusive nature, as an annual holiday tradition for years to come.
