GoFundMe just released its 2024 Year in Help report, celebrating the generosity of individuals and nonprofits worldwide who helped each other throughout the year. With an average of two donations made every second, the report showcases the most generous places globally, significant moments that drove unprecedented help, and trends shaping the future of giving.

On average, 1 in every 15 Californians donated to a GoFundMe fundraiser this year. The outpouring of support demonstrated from Southern Californians over the last year truly showed the power in individuals giving help to one another. Here are some of the most notable fundraisers in your area this year:

  • Fundraiser for OCFA Handcrew: More than $380,000 has been raised for the Southern California first responders injured in an Orange County crash.
  • Natalie Franks and Family Medical & Recovery Fund: An Aliso Viejo mother of two who continues her recovery after being crushed by a tree while on vacation in Idaho, received more than $200k in donations. The latest details on her recovery can be found here.
  • Juan “Spike” Osorio: More than $190,000 was raised for the family of a lighting technician working on a Marvel series, who tragically died in a set accident after falling at the Radford Studio Center in Studio City.
  • Help the Bouvet Family After Tragic Accident: A Murrieta family received thousands of dollars in support after their father died in a crash while protecting his wife and kids.

Globally, more than 1.7 million people took action to strengthen their communities this year, with the number of U.S. fundraisers focused on building a “brighter future” more than doubling. In the U.S., fundraising for “essential expenses” quadrupled, while fundraising for “hope” increased by more than 50%.

Across the globe, the GoFundMe community also came together in 2024 to address critical needs and champion meaningful causes worldwide:

  • Nearly $235 million raised globally for natural disaster relief and recovery efforts
  • More than 15,500 donors helped dreams come true for Olympic and Paralympic athletes and their families
  • More than 42 million donations to individuals
  • More than 23 million donations to nonprofits
  • Average donation amount on GoFundMe this year: $77
  • 1 in 3 GoFundMe donors are repeat donors
  • More than 2 million first-time organizers

Kindly,

GoFundMe’s global community, now connecting over 190 million people and nonprofits, also achieved new milestones in 2024. We expanded into new markets, with the additions of Mexico and Puerto Rico. GoFundMe also invested in new tools like the industry-first integration with Meta to help organizers tell and share their stories, GoFundMe Profiles to make sharing the causes people care about easier, and fundraising streaming widgets to enable people to receive donations on a livestream, in real-time.
