Stocks fall as U.S.-China trade war intensifies

A four-day winning streak for the Standard & Poor’s 500 index ended, with the benchmark index sinking 19.82 points, or 0.7%, to 2,774.02. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 219.21 points, or 0.9%, to 24,700.75. The Nasdaq composite fell 42.59 points, or 0.5%, to 7,716.61. The Russell 2000, an index of smaller and more U.S.-focused companies, fell 11.96 points, or 0.7%, to 1,683.66.
